Kathmandu University is an autonomous self funding institution for higher learning established by an Act of Parliament in December 1991. It is dedicated to maintain the standard of academic excellence in various classical and professional disciplines. The School of Arts (SOA) established in 1996, is one of the Seven Schools at the University, brought forth to promote professional knowledge and skills in liberal arts, culture, music, media and social sciences. Nepal Centre for Contemporary Studies, a research institute, established in 1995, was brought under the umbrella of Kathmandu University by a legislation of 2020. The centre has been working on research and publication in contemporary socio – economic and political issues of South Asia ever since its foundation
