why ATWS ?
A brief History – ATWS – South Asia Chapter
Ever since its inception, great luminaries like Dr. Anand Imbanathan (Bangalore), Mrs. Chitra Harshavardhan (JNU), Dr.K.Sadasivan (M.S. University), Dr.J.K.Samal (Berhampur University), Dr. Bennet Abraham (Karakonam Medical College), Dr.V.P.Kulkarni (ISRO), Dr.Suryakumari (Mother Teresa University) Dr.K.K.Kusuman and his colleagues in the Department of History, University of Kerala and several other distinguished personalities have been co-operating with Dr.Isaiah Azariah in co-ordinating the academic activities of ATWS, South Asia Chapter, which are mostly multidisciplinary and beneficial to society at large)
Launched as a multi- disciplinary research forum, ATWS, SAC has always stood for genuine research on varied relevant problems of Developing Countries of South Asia, encouraging debates and publications on such issues. Empathising and co-operating with academic institutions, activists and agencies striving towards social harmony, development and upliftment of the marginalised, the Association has been organising for the past nineteen years annual conferences and National and International seminars. The ardent endeavors of great luminaries like Dr. K.K.Kusuman (the first Organising Chair person) and his colleagues in the University of Kerala have provided enormous succor. ATWS, SAC has also instituted from last year (2014) onwards an \’Excellence Award\’ to a person dedicated to the cause of peace, prosperity, culture and social service, in honour of our immediately past President- Mrs. Helen Azariah whose life was dedicated to the service of the destitutes and differently abled.
ATWS OBJECTIVES
1.Knowledge Share
Provide ongoing open forum to discuss and analyze Third World Problems and developments from different perspectives or view points and thus improve understanding of the underlying forces shaping the destiny of the Third World and impacting global developments.
2.Enhancement
Promote professional development through the encouragement of research, publication and teaching in the area of Third World Studies
3.Facilitate
Facilitate professional and social communication by sponsoring activities that will bring together persons interested in Third World Studies.
4. Quality of Life
Promote the enhancement of the quality of life of Third World people through formal association with private and public institutions involved in the developments in the Third World
