27th Annual Conference – Event Brief

Association of Third World Studies-South Asia Chapter (ATWS-SAC) organised its 27th Annual Conference and a 2 day International seminar in collaboration with Kathmandu University on the theme \”Nepal-India Affinities- the Retrospect and Prospects\”, at the School of Management, Kathmandu University, on 20th and 21st May, 2025.

The Conference was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Dr Achyuth Prasad Wagle. The President of ATWS-SAC, Dr E. James R. Daniel, the Vice President of ATWS-SAC and Organising Chairperson of the Conference, Dr P. Vasumathi Devi, Ms. Ekka Maya Pun, Dean of Arts and Convenor of Local Organising committee, Dr Surya Kumari, Former Professor and Head, Department of History and Tourism Management, Mother Theresa Women\’s University, Kodaikanal and Dr Uddhab Pyakurel, Local Secretary, Associate Professor, Department of Political Sociology, School of Management, Kathmandu University graced the inaugural session.The Helen Azariah Excellence award was presented to Dr Lok Raj Baral, Honorary Chairman, Nepal Centre for Contemporary Studies, Kathmandu University.

There were commendable paper presentations on the following themes:

Environmental problems
Science and Technology
Health and Medicine
Political issues
Sociological, Psychological & Gender issues
Economic, Educational & Legal issues
History, Archaeology, Art & Literature
Religion and Thought

The Valedictory address was delivered by Dr Bhola Thapa, Former VC, Kathmandu University. Certificates were distributed to the participants. Dr Nandakumar, Joint Secretary of ATWS-SAC proposed the Vote of Thanks.
